Germany and Denmark Agree on 3 GW Bornholm Offshore Wind Project

Berlin and Copenhagen have reached an agreement to jointly develop the Bornholm Energy Island project. This offshore wind infrastructure benefits from a €645 million European grant and will connect the electrical grids of both countries.

Germany and Denmark signed an agreement at the North Sea Summit in Hamburg for the joint development of the Bornholm Energy Island project. This offshore wind infrastructure has a capacity of 3 GW and will connect its output to both Danish and German national grids. According to the European Commission, this is the first project of its kind to transform offshore wind energy into a shared resource at the European level.
