Law on Energy and Water Supply
Description

The Law of Georgia on Energy and Water Supply establishes the core regulatory framework for the entire energy sector, focusing on the goal of creating transparent, competitive, and integrated markets, particularly for natural gas and electricity. For natural gas, the law specifically regulates transmission, distribution, supply, storage, and trade, including setting the terms for market participation and access to the system for producers. A key objective across all energy types is to ensure the security of supply, reliability, and efficiency of the systems, while also aligning Georgia's legal requirements with the European Union. The law also highlights the public service obligation to ensure security of supply, environmental protection, energy efficiency, the production of energy from renewable energy sources and climate protection.
