Description

The main objective of this law is to promote the use of fuel alcohol (ethanol), a fuel derived from biomass, by mixing it with petrol to create Flex-type fuels. It mandates certain minimum mixing percentages, and supports the production of ethanol as a clean, renewable fuel source. Preference is given to sugarcane. Through this law the government seeks to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and stimulate local agricultural and industrial development linked to biofuel production. It designates the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) as the enforcement authorities.
