Description
<p>This Act gives effect to the Agreement Establishing the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (signed 4 February 2002), the objectives of which are, to protect the climate system of territories that are members of the Centre for the benefit of present and future generations of their people, to enhance regional institutional capabilities for the co-ordination of national responses to the negative effects of climate change, to provide comprehensive policy and technical support in the area of climate change and related issues and spearheading regional initiatives in those areas, to perform the role of executing agency for regional environmental projects relating to climate change.</p>
<p>The Centre shall, amongst other things, collect, analyse and disseminate data; facilitate and co-ordinate the development of Carribean positions on global climate change; assist Members, on request, in realising the equitable benefots resulting from financial mechanisms under the Kyoto Porotcol; provide strategic assistance for public education and awareness campaigns; develop special programmes for coastal zone management, disaster management adn potentially vulnerable sectors such as tourism, health, agriculture and insurance.</p>
