RWE wins long-term service and maintenance contract for Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm. Thus, the company will collaborate with SSE Renewable in a 50/50 partnership.

RWE wins 10-year contract

RWE is a key player in the UK offshore wind market, with over 1.3 GW (pro rata) of operational capacity and a further 6.2 GW of offshore capacity under construction or development. In fact, the conglomerate owns nine other offshore wind farms in the UK.

RWE has won the tender for a new contract in the UK for the Greater Gabbard offshore wind project. This will begin in early 2023 and will carry the project through to its planned end of life.

The Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm consists of 140 turbines. Thus, the park has a production capacity of 504 MW. In operation since 2012, it produces enough renewable energy to power more than 400,000 British homes.

In addition, the park will be managed through a joint venture. SEE Renewable continues to operate the park at 50%. RWE is well positioned to provide high quality service and maintenance at Greater Gabbard and will work closely with SSE, who will remain the operator at the site.

Thomas Michel, head of offshore wind operations at RWE Renewables, comments:

“Being selected as the service and maintenance provider for Greater Gabbard is a testament to the company’s expertise and experience. It demonstrates that RWE is an undisputed industry leader and provides us with an excellent opportunity to improve performance and create synergies across the fleet. We look forward to working with our partner SSE to ensure the success of the site going forward.”
