McDermott, in a joint venture with Chiyoda International Corporation (CIC), has substantially completed construction and commissioning of Train 1 of the Golden Pass LNG project in Sabine Pass, Texas. Golden Pass LNG Terminal LLC subsequently led start-up operations and achieved first LNG production on Train 1. This milestone marks the culmination of years of engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning on one of the most significant LNG developments in North America. In an oil and gas sector undergoing major corporate realignments, including TotalEnergies' creation of NEO NEXT+, the UK's largest independent oil and gas producer, the delivery of this infrastructure reflects the momentum behind large-scale LNG export projects.

McDermott Leading the Joint Venture

McDermott serves as lead partner of the joint venture responsible for delivering the three LNG trains at the Sabine Pass complex. Michael McKelvy, Chief Executive Officer and Chair of the Board for McDermott, described the milestone as a defining moment for the project. He stated: “Reaching first LNG demonstrates the strength of our execution capabilities, the resilience of our teams and our ability to safely deliver complex LNG infrastructure that supports global energy needs.” The company presents this achievement as a reflection of its capabilities on large-scale engineering and construction projects.

Trains 2 and 3 Under Construction

Following the commissioning of Train 1, McDermott and Chiyoda will continue construction and commissioning work on Trains 2 and 3 of the Golden Pass LNG project. The Sabine Pass complex ranks among the most significant LNG developments in North America, according to the two partners. The progression of the project, carried out within a joint venture framework between two specialized industrial engineering firms, reflects the operational demands inherent in large-scale liquefaction projects.
